Located in New Windsor, NY, an hour’s drive from the George Washington Bridge, Storm King Art Center is one of the largest and most popular outdoor sculpture parks in the country. It features over 150 artists’ works spread across 500 fields and lush forests in the Hudson Valley, and this season’s fall foliage is peaking this weekend, making it a great time to visit. Artists such as Alexander Calder and Maya Lin have brought him international recognition. Founded in 1960 by Ralph E. Ogden and H. Peter Stern, co-owners of the Star Expansion Company, it was originally a museum of Hudson River School paintings before expanding to include outdoor sculpture. It has successfully combined art and its natural surroundings to show the beauty of Orange County. Part of the land was originally a gravel quarry that supported the construction of the New York Thruway.
