Trump-themed Halloween show rejected by city council as ‘fun’ – mom faces $122-a-day fine

Was it a political hit –and-run work?

A Wisconsin woman has labeled a city council “petty” for trying to fine her more than $100 a day for a gruesome Halloween display depicting Donald Trump and Joe Biden on the lawn.

“I think it’s stupid and I even told them that,” Cherise Pfeifer, 42, told Kennedy News about the proposed penalty for “fun sipping.” “It’s a Halloween decoration.”

The Wausau resident has become a go-to townwide for decorating her property with hand-crafted figurines, faux tombstones and other extravagant holiday displays each fall.

“Usually I put a skeleton as the driver, but this year I put Donald Trump and President Joe Biden as characters in my car,” Pfeifer said as he described the display (pictured). Kennedy News/@cherisechrisula

“I’ve been doing crazy Halloween decorations in my house for 10 years,” said the mother of two. “In the city I am known for them and I do them all myself.

A few years ago, Pfeifer increased her prop repertoire with a scene depicting Trump and Biden involved in a fictional car accident.

This controversial crash scene consists of a real blue car on its lawn with a dummy “corpse” on the roof. A photo of Trump’s head is stuck inside the windshield behind the wheel, while a fake Joe Biden sits in the passenger seat.

“[In the scene] they hit an auto mechanic body that was created as if they were mad that they hadn’t fixed the car properly,” the insurance agent boasted.

While townspeople adored the strange display, it came under fire from the Wausau City Council, which claimed that parking on the lawn violates one of the city’s municipal codes.

That ordinance prohibits people from parking cars in mosques, stipulating that they must be parked on a street or other designated hard surface, according to the organization’s website.

The council gave Halloween fans until October. 22 to remove them and said they would fine her $122 every day until she agreed.

“People said they like coming to my house to see my decorations,” said Pfeifer, who has been putting up whimsical Halloween displays for 10 years. Kennedy News/@cherisechrisula

That proposal didn’t sit well with Pfeifer, who asserted, “I think it’s 100 percent petty that I should take this down.”

The Wisconsinite argued that she did not violate the municipal code, since she had clearly parked the car there as a “Halloween decoration” and not because there was not enough space.

“I have room for eight cars in my driveway and I currently only have three parked there,” she argued. “It’s not like I can’t park it in my driveway.”

“‘You’re a fun little bugger.'” That’s what I called them [the council],” continued Pfeifer, who, after a battle with the council, eventually capitulated and removed the decoration.

The Badger State native believed the move may have been motivated by the upcoming presidential election as she had appeared in previous years without incident.

“I don’t know if it’s partly political this year because of who I had in the car,” Pfeifer said. “If the inspectors didn’t like one of the people I put in the car, I could see them doing it.”

“It doesn’t make sense for them to come after me this year and not any of the other years,” she added.

Many commenters rallied to Pfeifer’s defense after she posted her condition on Facebook.

“And that’s why people don’t do more for holiday decorations,” declared one patron. “The car is not harming anyone. It’s just part of the theme for the decorations. Wausau is drowning.”

Another said: “Dude is a total fun ripper. You are not harming anyone. You obviously haven’t [the car] there after the party. What a poor sport.”

However, others sided with the council with one writing, “The citation is for parking on the lawn. Not for decorations.”

“You can NOT park a vehicle on your lawn in the city of Wausau. Read your citation-duh,” said another.

However, Pfeifer claims that most people supported him and even urged him to appeal the decision.

She is currently applying for a permit that would allow her to recreate the car crash scene in October. 31 – although she’s not sure if they have Halloween exceptions.

“I might even get a big sign that says, ‘The city made me take down the car crash scene,'” Pfeifer said.
